About Jim

James B. Rasco, CPA (Retired) “Jim” as he is personally known, is a 9th generation Arkansan and Legacy Partner for the firm.  Jim began his professional career in 1963 in the Little Rock office of the international CPA firm Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. (now KPMG). In 1973, along with two other PMM managers, Jim founded our firm – which was first known as Rasco, Burris & Winter. Over the years the firm grew to become Rasco Winter Abston and Moore, LLP which then merged with L. Cotton Thomas & Company in 2018 to become Rasco Winter Thomas, LLP.

During his sixty-year career, Jim’s extensive and specialized experience in taxation and planning for medical corporations and their related retirement plans, estates & trusts and farm corporations has been relied upon by our Arkansas community.

Jim was born and raised in DeWitt, AR.  At DeWitt High, he was a four-sport star athlete and valedictorian of his senior class.  He was awarded a basketball scholarship to Hendrix College, where he earned letters in basketball and track. After college, Jim took up tennis and won over fifty doubles tournaments.  In the 1990s, a local television station christened Jim “The Ultimate Sports Fan” and did a feature on his collection of sports memorabilia – much of which clients could view and enjoy during office visits.  He has been inducted into the Arkansas Sports Hall of Fame and into the Hendrix College Sports Hall of Honor.   Jim and his wife of over 60 years, Pam Dunaway, have 2 married daughters and 3 cherished grandchildren.  In retirement, Jim continues following the Razorbacks, writing articles about Arkansas athletes and continues his genealogical research of his Arkansas ancestors.
