Alan Abston, CPA, is a Principal Partner with over 35 years in both private and public accounting, advising the firm in visionary, organizational, managerial, and strategic initiatives. Alan’s commitment to excellence and innovation ensures the firm maintains its core mission of delivering exceptional client results while also focusing on firm infrastructure and stability through effective operations and management strategies to meet high standards of practice. Alan is passionate about superior client relationships and service, professional team building, mentoring, process improvement and has been committed to creating the proper group of professionals to assist clients in reaching their goals. Alan’s primary focus is his client’s success. Select clients have appointed Alan to serve as their Trustee, Fiduciary or Interim Manager.
Prior to joining Rasco Burris and Winter in 1998, which grew into Rasco Winter Abston and Moore, LLP, and later Rasco Winter Thomas, LLP upon the merger with L. Cotton Thomas & Company, Alan began his professional career with Deloitte and Touche, LLP.
As the firm’s Tax Practice leader, Alan provides tax compliance and advisory services for many closely held businesses and their owners. Alan becomes familiar with all aspects of a client’s operation to produce more advantageous solutions including multigenerational tax and succession planning strategies. His wide-angle perspective covers the preparation and review of business, fiduciary and individual tax returns – including returns for family offices, family limited partnerships and high-net-worth individuals. Alan has served clients in several industries including many in healthcare, manufacturing, construction, retail, wholesale, and service. He also has extensive experience in representation before the IRS and state tax authorities.
As one of Arkansas’ first specialized Business Valuation Experts accredited by the ASA, Alan has over 20 years of experience working closely with attorneys on numerous engagements such as estate and gift matters, shareholder redemptions, and transaction advisory services including buy-and-sale guidance for merger and acquisition due diligence.
Alan was raised in Monticello, Arkansas and graduated from Centenary College of Louisiana where he served in many leadership roles. He and his wife, Suzanna, married in Pulaski Heights United Methodist Church over 25 years ago and have 3 children, Clark, Anna and Claire. As a 5th generation Arkansan, Alan loves the great state of Arkansas and in his free time Alan can be found with family exploring Arkansas – campsites, hiking mountains, floating rivers and surfing Greers Ferry Lake. He believes everyone should experience an Arkansas lake sunset. He also enjoys time with friends, Razorback games, playing golf, fishing, hunting, snow skiing, reading, playing games, traveling and giving back to the community.
